Tom Hardy Confirmed For Lead Role In Venom
Tom Hardy seems to fancy himself as a bit of a supervillain. After playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, he has now taken on the role of Spider-Man’s nemesis Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom.
Sony have recently decided to reboot their Spider-Man franchise, with Spider-Man: Homecoming set to hit our screens this summer. Venom has been scheduled for release in October 2018, they celebrated the Tom Hardy announcement with a tweet.

Hardy’s character, Eddie Brock, is a photographer that becomes infected by an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive. After leaving Peter Parker, the symbiote bonds with Eddie Brock, who is the longest serving venom.
We have seen Venom appear in Spider-Man movies before. Topher Grace played Brock and Venom in Spiderman 3, a film that was roundly hated upon. Here’s a little taste of what happened last time around.
The film looks set to be directed by Ruben Fleischer, who previously worked on Zombieland. With Tom Hardy playing the lead, and Venom being such a popular character, this one has box office smash written all over it.
That’s be music to the ears of Sony, who are trying to rejuvenate the Spider-Man franchise that they purchased from Marvel in the 1990’s. It’s believed that Sony and Marvel struck a deal meaning that Spider-man could appear in the Avengers films if Marvel worked with them on rebooting the character.
Venom isn’t the only spin-off that we can expect from the Spider-Man comics. Sony have also planning to release a film focussed on the female characters Silver Sable and Black Cat.
We can’t seem to get enough of superhero movies right now.
