ASDA Are Bringing Out A Cheese Advent Calendar That Looks Absolutely Brie-liant

Normally I’m one to avoid all the Christmas chat until post Bonfire Night. Not that I’m a scrooge, but I just really don’t see the point in dragging out one of the best times of the year and diluting its excellence.

That being said, when I saw that ASDA were releasing a cheese advent calendar, I swiftly changed my tune.

Cheese is, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest food creations out there. It’s hearty, sophisticated, and moreish. A good cheese has the capability to take your mood from 0 to 10 in one pungent mouthful.

Now imagine taking cheese’s mood enhancing powers and utilising them each day during a period of the year that is already filled with good cheer, festivity, and warm feelings. The result can only be positive and this notion seems to have been recognised by ASDA.

That’s right, ASDA are bringing out a cheese themed advent calendar. The calendar features 24 individually wrapped cheeses in 5 different tantalising varieties such as Applewood, Mexicana, and Jarlsberg.

Blogger Annem Hobson, the mastermind behind the invention, said:

“Cheese. I love it. I’d go as far as saying I love it more than chocolate.

“After searching high and low and discovering there shockingly wasn’t already one on the market, I launched a campaign after creating one handmade prototype last Christmas”

“The response was overwhelming with over 11,000 of you cheese lovers signing up to get one in 2017”

“After a busy year of figuring out packaging, wrapping my head around contracts, retailers, trademarks and more, I’m thrilled to announce that they will be on sale in Asda stores nationwide!”

The calendars cost £9.99 each and while that’s perhaps more expensive than your bog standard Dairy Milk calendar, it’s 1p cheaper than Lindt’s advent calendar and a whole lot less basic.

Chocolate advent calendars are great, don’t get me wrong but cheese can, in some ways, be seen as a healthier, teeth-friendly equivalent to the more traditional options. (I don’t know why I’m trying to promote it as healthy; it’s CHEESE for god sake, there needn’t be any other selling point).

Aldi have also released the perfect counterpart to ASDA’s cheese calendar innovation: a wine advent calendar. December could prove to be a very classy month.

But these two aren’t the only unorthodox advent calendars available this festive period, with a ‘ginvent calendar’ also coming into play. But before you get too excited at the prospect of flavoured itsy bitsy gin bottles to consume each morning, this bad boy will set you back £99.

Really it would just be cheaper to buy a festive shot glass and a bottle of Tesco own brand gin. Slightly less snuggly-Christmas-tipple maybe and more depressed-Christmas-alchie perhaps, but beggars can’t be choosers and the end result would be more or less the same (asleep at your desk at 9:30 am).

Due to go on sale on 6th November, if you want to get your paws on one of ASDA’s ingenuous cheese calendars then you better be prepared.

Christmas really is a beautiful time.
