'Fairytale Of New York' Has Been Voted The Best Christmas Song Of All Time

It’s almost December, which means it’s almost time to crack out your Christmas tree, get yourself into that corny Christmas jumper, and turn the festive tunes up to max.

Are you hanging up your stocking on the wall? Yes Slade, yes we are.

There’s an extensive library of Christmas music on hand for us to enjoy, with everyone from John Lennon, to Elton John, to Mariah Carey finding the time to release a now-iconic festive-themed hit.

Whatever your music taste, Christmas is the time for us to come together and belt out the same cheesy fun.

Family celebrating Christmas for many years together

What’s the best Christmas song? As it turns out there’s a correct answer to that question.

According to a milieu of polls, Fairytale of New York (by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl) is the greatest Christmas song ever released.

You won’t find us arguing… There’s something about Fairytale of New York that just perfectly encapsulates the cosy yet weirdly melancholy feeling of Christmas Eve. We could listen to that song a thousand times, and never get bored.

Other iconic Christmas songs that deserve a mention – Driving Home For Christmas (Chris Rea), Merry Xmas Christmas Everybody (Slade), All I Want For Christmas Is You (Mariah Carey) and Last Christmas (Wham!).

You should also listen to Just Like Christmas by Low, because it’s a joy.
